Singapore is the kind of city that makes you feel vaguely underdressed the moment you land. The airport is a garden. The metro is cleaner than most Indian living rooms. And by the time you're standing below the Marina Bay Sands light show on your first evening — the city reflected in dark water, the skyline impossibly bright — you understand completely why 1.2 million Indians visited in 2025 alone.
Singapore Visa for Indians (2026)
Indians need a visa for Singapore. Apply online through Singapore's official e-Visa system. Processing time: 3–5 working days. Cost: approximately SGD 30 (₹1,800–2,000). You'll need your passport, hotel booking, return tickets, and bank statement. Approval rates for Indian nationals with clean travel history are high.
Can I Use UPI in Singapore?
Yes — Singapore has over 130,000 merchants that accept UPI payments through the cross-border UPI-PayNow linkage. Look for the PayNow QR code at restaurants, shops, and tourist venues. You'll still need Singapore Dollars (SGD) for hawker centres, smaller shops, and taxis. Exchange at airport money changers — Changi rates are decent, better than most city hotels.

Day 1: Marina Bay — The Singapore Everyone Comes For
Check in and head straight to Marina Bay by evening. Walk across the Helix Bridge, photograph the Marina Bay Sands from the waterfront promenade, and time your arrival for the Wonder Full light and water show at 9 PM (free, runs nightly from the waterfront). Dinner at Lau Pa Sat hawker centre — satay grilled at outdoor stalls, laksa, two people eating well for SGD 20–30 (₹1,200–1,800).
Day 2: Sentosa Island — The Playground
Devote a full day to Sentosa. Take the cable car over the harbour (scenic; worth it with a partner). Universal Studios Singapore: ~SGD 83/person (₹5,000) — book online. Must-do: Transformers ride, Battlestar Galactica coasters, Jurassic World zone. After USH: walk the Palawan Beach boardwalk to the southernmost point of continental Asia. Dinner at a Sentosa waterfront restaurant with a Singapore Sling. Yes, it's touristy. Do it anyway.
Day 3: The Cultural Districts (The Best Day)
Take the MRT to Little India first — Tekka Market for a South Indian breakfast (idli, sambar, filter coffee; better than most Indian cities). Walk through to Kampong Glam — Sultan Mosque, hipster cafes on Haji Lane, perfume shops, street murals. Lunch at a Malay-style hawker stall. Afternoon in Chinatown — Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (free entry), the night market shopping. Visit the ArtScience Museum in the late afternoon (the lotus-shaped building from outside is one of Singapore's great architecture moments). Evening: OCBC Garden Rhapsody light show at Gardens by the Bay (7:45 PM and 8:45 PM, free from outside). The Supertree Grove lit up at night is the most distinctly Singaporean image you'll take home.
Day 4: Last Bites and Departure
Morning: Singapore Botanic Gardens (free; UNESCO World Heritage Site) or Orchard Road shopping. One last hawker centre lunch — Maxwell Food Centre or Chinatown Complex. Order Hainanese chicken rice, char kway teow, and oyster omelette. Eat too much. Regret nothing. Transfer to Changi Airport 2.5 hours early — the Jewel Changi waterfall and butterfly garden are worth the time. Singapore's airport is, remarkably, often the best part of someone's trip.
Things Singapore Does Better Than Anywhere
- The MRT is fast, clean, and intuitive — get an EZ-Link card from any station
- Hawker centres are not a compromise; they are the best food in the city (Michelin has given stars to hawker stalls here)
- The city is completely safe at any hour; walking back to your hotel at midnight is entirely normal
- It's very walkable within districts, but hot and humid year-round — pack comfortable shoes and hydrate constantly
